E90 - Run YOUR race and watch the spectators flock w/ Geeta Nadkarni
Tuesday Dec 10, 2019
Tuesday Dec 10, 2019
We talk a lot about failure here on Knucklehead and the role it plays in success.
Why?
When pressure or stress get to be too much, it forces a breakdown in performance. When there's a breakdown in performance, you aren't able to consistently reach the results businesses and people strive to achieve. The pendulum will always swing back to success in proportion to the degree you failed (if you analyze what happened and know what to fix going forward).
Today, we talk with a performance coach on what the physiological process your body and mind go through when you allow yourself to experience failure and setbacks. Geeta Nadkarni has been working with branding experts, top performers, and leaders to crystallize their "hairy monster" challenges that exist between someone's ears and how that holds them back from truly experiencing failure, and thus, the success they've been striving for.

E89 - Can you let go? Humble Alpha Co-Founder Lane Belone

What does freedom mean to you?
What about "being vulnerable or authentic"?
Describing to someone the characteristics of freedom can be challenging without you using simple stories. Helping people mentally connect with something they've never physically experienced is a challenging task. Like when you take your seat belt off, you're free to move out of your seat. Or, even something as simple as deciding what shirt to wear to work on a given day.
Lane Belone traveled to various places throughout the world to expand the sense of freedom and pass that perspective on to folks he works with. The program strips away the facade of control, allows folks to mentally connect with various emotions and step outside of the norm to achieve things they haven't experienced before.

Imagine your normal work day. You have folks that get on your nerves, folks that make it hard to come back the next day. Now throw in the dynamic of those at your work are recovering from both mental and physical battle wounds.
As a combat medic, Mike Barker saw the affect battle had on the psyche and morale of soldiers. He himself had mental demons flexing daily on him as he made his rounds with his brothers and sisters going through their own daily recovery.
Then one day, the banter shared on the hardwood or gridiron inspired Mike to help those recovering from burns and amputations to quiet those demons. The sports field brought his patients together, competitiveness tapped into, and the pain from sports started to bring healing. That inspiration led Mike to start Heroes Sports, a non-profit dedicated to bringing healing through sports to those dealing with the mental and physical affects of war-time injuries.

E87 - There's no playing it safe, with Unconventional Leadership Host Heather Parody
Wednesday Nov 20, 2019
Wednesday Nov 20, 2019
When you learn about Heather, it's important to focus on how isolated she was when she took the leap of faith on herself. Having a stable career and opportunities to move forward based on ambition are some of what folks look for when deciding what they're doing with their life, and she went the unconventional route.
Isn't that interesting that now, the description of her work is "we connect with unconventional leaders from all over the world who have built great things from the ground up. The show's mission is to empower first-generation self-starters to step up, use their voice, and make an impact in the world."
Truly amazing the inspiration and substance one can gleam from someone being disciplined in their process and carving out their own niche - if that's your jam, take a peek at Heather Parody.

E86 - Tiny Leaps Big Changes, Gregg Clunis
Tuesday Nov 12, 2019
Tuesday Nov 12, 2019
Gregg read Tony Robbins' book at Age 13.
It became clear to him at that age that he could be in control of his life. Till his boss caught him watching YouTube videos at work.
Hence, one of the first tiny leaps. He switched to audio. Or in today's terms, Podcasts.
Inspired by this new form of media, he pursued information from industry leaders and subsequently purchased coursework on developing the technical skill. Fast forward a few years, he's approaching 8,000,000 downloads and has helped launch over 40 shows for him and his clients.
However, he dives into one of the most gut-wrenching moments in any entrepreneurs life. Losing 70% of his company's revenue when the market changed in a single night.
We dive into how he recovered. What he did. Who he learned from. And how that death blow, really wasn't thanks to his philosophy.

E83 - When your cause goes "viral", Hungry Heroes Founder Amanda Riggan
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
Tuesday Oct 22, 2019
It's not everyday that you have to deliver 50 packages.
Unless you're a FedEx driver.
In which case, that's a slow day.
Always pressed for time, this FedEx driver went back to help a woman who was having a rough day.
Amanda Riggan didn't know that 15 Million people would soon know how she helped that woman.
Running a local non-profit, Hungry Heroes, which has a mission to feed para-military departments throughout the country, all while delivering FedEx packages in South Carolina was almost that a single mom of a young daughter could shoulder. With some help and support from organizations and her community, Amanda was able to overcome what she didn't know to assemble a team to help grow the cause that is rooted in healing.
"Move your feet." Amanda tells those that pay attention.
When you do, you start to accomplish what you're meant to with those that you're meant to do it with. Treager Wood Pellet Grills among other corporate supporters, along with grass-roots support from service providers throughout the country, Amanda credits those that have helped fuel the mission of filling bellies of those that serve our communities.

E82 - Airman to Mom w/ Women of the Military Podcast Host, Amanda Huffman
Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
How does learning about history influence the future?
If the only constant throughout time is change, then why are we programmed to resist it?
Leaders and innovators encourage the challenging of the status quo, but only from a perspective that will derive value in the end result. Challenging for the sake of challenges only leaves the situation unresolved and frustrates the parties involved.
Since World War II, the population of veterans has declined (in relation to the overall population) yet the number of women serving in our armed forces has dramatically increased as well as their role in the infrastructure and administration of the military. As with most all change, these Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors carry with them invaluable lessons typically reserved only for those in close proximity or match their gender behind closed doors - yet, not with Amanda Huffman's story-telling podcast, Women of the Military.
Two-star Generals, senior enlisted, as well as one-term junior members and recently transitioning service members sit with Amanda as she carefully provides them the opportunity to educate and entertain their audience on her show. These stories and more at:

E81 - What's In Your (Tap) Water, w/ Hydroviv CEO Eric Roy
Tuesday Oct 08, 2019
Tuesday Oct 08, 2019
Who remembers the Flint water crisis? How about the Newark water crisis?
Certainly you've heard of ABC's Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs go pitch to a panel of sharks to gain equity or strategic partners for their business as well as educate the audience that watches the show. Eric Roy had been supporting child care centers and a few other mission critical organizations in Flint with a "customized water filter" to restrict harmful chemicals from contaminating those residents in Flint. He went onto Shark Tank and eventually struck a deal with Mark Cuban to help fuel the growth of their business and help communities throughout the country and help families protect themselves from harmful contaminants in our drinking water.
There are more cities with these challenges. There will be more of these stories that hit the press and the media outlets, if folks don't take the time to get educated about their water and the infrastructure in their communities.
